Gifts of The Spirit

1 Corinthians 12 (KJV)
7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
They are: wisdom, understanding, counsel, knowledge, fortitude, piety, and fear of the Lord (wonder and awe).

We are told to be like Jesus! This is a perfect example. With this gift, we will be able to see, feel, and act according to how Jesus would. Can you imagine looking at the world through the eyes of Jesus Christ? But, with the perspective of divine persuasion.
Psalm 111 (KJV)
10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.

The gift of understanding gives us the ability to comprehend the Scriptures, the overall picture. To be able to evaulate the message within them and express it to others. This gift goes hand-in-hand with faith! The more you understand the teaching of GOD, the more it enables you to gain strength from it. THE WORD…is the teachings of GOD!

The gift of counsel is the ability to discern right from wrong but also to provide the solutions needed to guide. Counsel is the ability to be compassionate but assertive. Keeping the commandments of GOD is imperative to our future now, and eternally.

In our daily battle against not only this world, but also the dark side of the supernatural takes courage. It’s the mental and emotional strength which only The Holy Spirit can give. We live in a time which we hear of much persecution but this is not new. No, it’s not new at all. So, this too should be a lesson. We are to stand fast.

The genuine ability to turn to GOD, our Father in heaven and learn of HIS love for us, and how this is a pattern to live our lives. Love is GOD. GOD is love. We are to use these outward emotions to inwardly respond to prayer and adoration for GOD. It’s a circle of love.

Knowledge isn’t just history, or scientific fact. Knowledge is combining our spiritual wisdom with the material world. The needs of both the material and spirit. Our body, mind and soul…and utilizing this knowledge determines how we live.

This one is the most misunderstood of them all. Most people believe we are to be ‘scared’ of GOD. Our relationship with GOD is meant to be one of adoration and mutual love. But, we must remember we are HIS child. We are molded. We are taught right from wrong. So, to prune the tree, or mold the clay…takes discipline. We must be disciplined. This is not meant to be a fear-controlled relationship but one of mature respect.
