Dueling winter storms have dumped snow and ice, and caused wind damage across the United States as Americans brace for dangerously cold temperatures through Valentine's Day weekend.

More than a foot of snow has already blanketed parts of Washington and Oregon as a new storm system hit the West Coast on Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

The East Coast was hammered with more snow, ice and freezing rain as power outage numbers climbed on Saturday, the Weather Channel reported.

The outlet reported that the new winter storm system 'could be one of the heavier snow events in at least a few years in Seattle and Portland, Oregon.'

Gusty winds have already left more than 233,000 customers without power across Oregon, according to More than 33,500 customers were left without power in Nevada.
