Singer-songwriter and former Pink Floyd frontman, Roger Waters has caused controversy after comparing the Israeli government’s treatment of the Palestinian people to the atrocities inflicted on the jews by Nazi Germany.

In an interview with online magazine CounterPunch, the 70 year old musician drew a number of parallels between 1930′s Germany and what is going on in Israel today, whipping up criticism from wrathful Rabbi’s and earning himself the epithet of ‘anti-Semite’ to boot.

Waters, describing the similarities between the occupied territories of Gaza and Nazi Germany as “crushingly obvious”, told the online publication that many people also pretended the oppression of the jews was not going on at the time, before accusing the Israeli right-wing Rabbinati of viewing Palestinian people as “sub-human”.

In response to Water’s comments, an outraged Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, writing for the jewish-owned New York Observer,¬†accused the Pink Floyd co-founder of ‘anti-Semitism’, saying he has no soul and a “rancid heart”, before taking the opportunity to remind him and the readers of the Observer, of how 6 million jews were murdered by the Nazis.

Waters denies being an ‘anti-Semite’, saying he has nothing against jewish people but “deplores the policies of the Israeli government” which he sees as immoral, inhuman and illegal. The ex-prog-rocker, along with an increasing number of other prominent public figures, has also called for a ‘cultural boycott’ of Israel.
