The Penn Bioethics Film fest is trying to start a public dialog about the real scientific issues that appear in films such as 'Ex Machina,' and 'Her.'

In Spike Jones' Her we were faced with the a rare positive depiction of invasive technology. While the human counterpart in the film becomes dependent on his AI operating system, voiced by the breathy Scarlett Johansson, there's no hidden evil agenda of the machine. Instead, the film represents the computer as innocent—eerily similar fashion to Siri and Alexa.
