Kerry Hails Iran’s Seizures in Gulf

While much of the world seems to regard Iran’s seizing of ships near the Straits of Hormuz as”troubling,” former US Secretary of State John Kerry called these actions “gratifying. I’ve been advising the government of Iran to stand up against Trump’s bullying for more than two years. I’m glad to see they’re finally doing so.”

Kerry brushed aside accusations that his actions might be construed as treason, contending that “since we are not currently at war with Iran they are not our enemies, therefore, the aid I’ve given them doesn’t meet the Constitution’s definition of treason. As a citizen of the world, it is my right to choose my own friends. I see nothing wrong with helping out those friends in a time of need.”

Mueller Testimony Delayed

It looks like Special counsel Robert Mueller’s testimony before Congress will not take place on July 17 as originally planned. House Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) is trying to get Mueller to appear before his committee on July 24.

Nadler explained that “we were able to reach a bipartisan agreement with the Republicans on the questioning protocol, but Mueller balked at the use of water-boarding, contending that ‘it is inappropriate to employ this harsh technique to a person of my stature.’ My feeling is that any ‘stature’ he may have had at one time was canceled out by his investigation’s failure to recommend an indictment of President Trump.”

Ranking Committee member Rep. Doug Collins (R-Georgia) cited “Mueller’s prior abuses in the Whitey Bulger case, where he withheld exculpatory evidence that resulted in four innocent men languishing in prison, is sufficient justification for the Committee to tr

At Its Core, Christian Zionism Is Anti-Semitic

Three days ago (July 8), Jewish Rabbi Lynn Gottlieb and Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ pastor Rev. Graylan Hagler collaborated on a column that was published on the Religion News Service website entitled The anti-Semitic theology behind the Christian Zionist lobby. Although I take exception to some of what is stated in the column, it is a very good read.

Gottlieb and Hagler begin:

This week, the largest Israel lobby group in the United States, Christians United for Israel, will hold a two-day “summit” in Washington, D.C., featuring high-profile speakers such as Vice President Mike Pence and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. Many of the event’s attendees and featured guests will profess their abiding love and support for Israel and Jewish people.

In reality, right-wing Christian supporters of Israel like CUFI pose a grave danger to the safety and well-being of both Jews and Palestinia

Today, July 4, America celebrates the 243rd anniversary of the adoption of our Declaration of Independence.

On July 4, 1837, John Quincy Adams said these words about Independence Day:

Why is it that, next to the birthday of the Savior of the world, your most joyous and most venerated festival returns on this day [Independence Day]? . . . Is it not that, in the chain of human events, the birthday of the nation is indissolubly linked with the birthday of the Savior? That it forms a leading event in the progress of the Gospel dispensation? Is it not that the Declaration of Independence first organized the social compact on the foundation of the Redeemer’s mission upon earth? That it laid the cornerstone of human government upon the first precepts of Christianity, and gave to the world the first irrevocable pledge of the fulfillment of the prophecies, announced directly from Heaven at the birth of the Savior and pr

Dems Promise Free Health Care for All

As candidate after candidate insisted that health care is a human right, the entire field of 2020 Democratic presidential contenders found themselves unable to exclude any human being from the enjoyment of this universal right. In a show of hands at a debate every candidate agreed that illegal immigrants would be included in their health plans should he or she succeed in getting elected in November 2020.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (Mass) explained that “human rights aren’t only for American citizens. They are for everyone. Withholding these benefits from anyone would be immoral. To use a man-made demarcation line like a country’s border to deny this right to those born on the other side is just plain selfish. We’re the richest nation in the world. It’s about time we started sharing our good fortune with those poorer than ourselves.”

Sen. Bernie Sanders (Vermont) contended that “I am the only one who has been hones

America’s Accelerating Predicament: Losing Our Cultural Identity

Have you noticed the amount of anti-American activities accelerating across America lately?  Have you noticed immigrant followers of Islam commandeering city streets to pray to their Allah in Detroit, Chicago, Miami, New York and Minneapolis?  That’s called: marking territory.   Have you noticed the refugees waving their countries’ flags as they demand illegal entry into our country?  In military terms: that’s known as an invading army.  Have you noticed American culture being attacked at every juncture?  Islamic immigrants refuse to stand for Old Glory or sing the national anthem. “It’s racist,” they scream.

Racism tops the list of words used to describe average Americans: “We have to stop demonizing people and realize the biggest terror threat in this country is white men, most of them radicalized to the right, and we have to start doing something about them.” Don Lemon, CNN

Dem Senators Want to Restore Pre-Trump Economy

Determined to undo what they called “the wrenching changes inflicted on America by Trump’s tax cuts,” Sens. Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) are proposing a “Long-Term Unemployment Act.” Their bill would create a federal program to reduce the number of private sector jobs and provide new government jobs for those who become unemployed. A problem caused by Trump’s policies is that there are currently more jobs than people to fill them.

“The present surplus of jobs is precisely the worst of the wrenching changes we aim to rectify,” Wyden said. “Generations of Americans have gotten used to the periodic respites that a few months of compensated unemployment has provided for them. But under Trump’s policies there are too many open jobs and very little opportunity to enjoy any paid downtime.”

“Our bill would rescind the tax cuts and ratchet down the prosperity to level
