Dismal Sino/US Relations. Renewed Trade War Ahead? New Cold War?

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)

Sino/US relations are more dismal than at any time since Nixon’s 1972 meeting with Mao during his weeklong visit to China.

Are bilateral differences irreconcilable? Is the breach between both countries too great to restore more cooperative relations?

Is a new trade war inevitable? Has it already begun unnoticed?Has a new Cold War begun that could turn hot?

Mistrust and friction between both countries continue worsening.

On the one hand, bilateral differences stem from Trump’s reelection strategy.

His manipulating the public mind blame game aims to shift responsibility for failure to effectively address the US public health issue and economic collapse onto China.

A far greater issue is wanting the country’s rise on the world stage as a political, economic, industrial, technological, and

Gov Vetoes Telemedicine Bill

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf (D) vetoed a bill that would have expanded patients’ access to telemedicine services during the coronavirus lockdown because “it didn’t include at home abortions.” In his veto message Wolf explained that “Planned Parenthood spent $1.5 million to help me win reelection. I would be a terrible ingrate if I failed to protect their interests.”

Critics pointed out that the veto will prevent a wide array of patients with serious health concerns from consulting with a doctor. Wolf expressed his sympathy, but asserted that “securing the equal treatment of all medical issues has to take precedence over discrimination against one procedure. The need of some women to end the lives of their unwanted children is just as valid as any other health concern. If these don’t-want-to-be mothers can’t be served, then no one can be served. If some must be deprived then all must be deprived.”

Ruminations of a Baby Boomer: Human Cruelty Around the World

Part 1: Examination of cruelty around the planet to humans, plants, birds and animals

During this Coronavirus event that slows down our world for the duration, I ruminate about life on this planet.  In this series, let’s examine what humanity continues perpetrating on itself and other creatures.  As a species, we may need to examine what we’re doing to ourselves and all other creatures on this planet.

One of the darker aspects of humanity that haunts me: our propensity for cruelty.  Not only to ourselves, but to the animals as well as plants.  The violence to our own kind really unhinges my sense of moral and ethical behavior.  Here in America, a man commits violence against a woman every 15 seconds.  The statisticians record two to three deaths daily from men killing their wives or girlfriends.  As a teacher, for a summer job, I drove for United Van Lines for 30 summers. I saw violence up close and personal.  Out in t

A Letter To The Editor of Time Magazine

For what it’s worth, I receive Time Magazine to keep up on national and international news.  Often their writers speak out of two sides of their mouths.  They focus on one story but fail to inform the American people.

Last week, they wrote about a “9 Percent Drop in Insect Populations per Decade”  I responded to a letter to the editor.

Dear Time editors: (letters@timemagazine.com)

Re: “9 percent drop of insects per decade” Time, For the Record, May 11, 2020, page 4

You report the horrific calamities facing humanity such as “bee colony collapse” and this latest report with “9 percent drop of insects every decade.”  At the same time, you need to follow up with what causes it.  Answer: Habitat encroachment by humans as we continue expanding into their wilderness. Habitat poisoning with insecticides, herbicides, Agent Orange, Roundup and more with Monsanto, Bayer and Dow Chemical.

NEVER AGAIN!

Opinion Column by Chuck Baldwin
There are several events in modern U.S. history that must never be allowed to happen again. Never, as in EVER!

I’m talking about false flag events that warmongering politicians have used to authorize U.S. military aggression and unjust war around the world and gross miscarriages of justice in violent despotic assaults against American citizens inside the United States.

I’m talking about the fabricated Gulf of Tonkin incidents in 1964 that launched an illegal and indefensible war in Vietnam. I’m talking about the premeditated and unprovoked attack on the USS Liberty by the State of Israel in 1967.

I’m talking about the total con job that was the 9/11 attacks, which precipitated two unconstitutional and immoral military invasions against two countries, Iraq and Afghanistan, that had absolutely nothing to do with those attacks—wars we are still waging in those countries almost twenty years later—and the phony perpetual “war on terror” th

What Kind of Civilization Are We Bequeathing to Our Children?

Have you noticed the news lately around the world?  With the coronavirus bringing the big cities to nearly a standstill, the air pollution indexes dropped significantly within the past 40 days in Los Angeles, Mexico City, Beijing, Chicago, Mumbai and other multi-million person cities.

Of course, once we create a vaccine to neutralize the virus, the human race will re-engage its methodical rampage on the Natural World.  We’ll jump back to burning 100 million barrels of oil 24/7.  We’ll ramp up the electrical plants by burning billions of tons of coal.  Our cities will return to gridlocked congestion while the Brown Cloud over them increases in its lethal toxicity.

As you know, my Facebook page, under the name of Frosty Wooldridge, enjoys countless people from around the world sending me information on what’s happening in their neck of the woods.

This past week, a new YouTube movie, at 1 hour and 50 minutes, titled

Millions More US Jobless Than Reported

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)

Based on how it was calculated pre-1990s, Shadowstats economist John Williams has the real US unemployment rate at around 38%, heading higher.

According to the Economic Policy Institute (EPI), “millions” of jobless US workers aren’t getting benefits because applications they filed, or were unable to because of a “buckle(d)” system, weren’t processed.

EPI: “For every 10 people who said they successfully filed for unemployment benefits during the previous four weeks:

Three to four additional people tried to apply but could not get through the system to make a claim.

Two additional people did not try to apply because it was too difficult to do so.”

This disturbing reality shows that the official US unemployment rate is way understated.

It’s also evidence that millions of US jobless wor

James Comey, Robert Mueller, Robert Kennedy & Jimmy Hoffa

Opinion Column by Menckens Ghost
Dear Thinker:

Because the virus has captured the news, the Mueller investigation into the fantasy of Trump colluding with the Russians now seems like ancient history.  But the investigation was brought back to mind by a book that I recently read:  In Hoffa’s Shadow, by Jack Goldsmith.

Goldsmith is a former Justice Department attorney.  His stepfather, Chuckie O’Brien, had been Hoffa’s right-hand man for decades and had been suspected by the FBI as being involved in Hoffa’s murder, a suspicion that Goldsmith deconstructs in the book.

Anyway, the book recounts the time in 2004 when James Comey was the deputy to Attorney General John Ashcroft, and Robert Mueller was the FBI Director.  Both of them took a strong stand at the time against surveillance of anyone, including foreign nationals, without a warrant.  Both said that the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) should be followed to the letter of the law.  When P

An Even Greater Threat Looming Beyond Coronavirus Pandemic

Eleanor Roosevelt said, “We must prevent human tragedy rather than run around trying to save ourselves after an event has already occurred.  Unfortunately, history clearly shows that we arrive at catastrophe by failing to meet the situation, by failing to act when we should have acted.  The opportunity passes us by and the next disaster is always more difficult and compounded than the last one.”

Years earlier, Winston Churchill said much the same thing, “Want of foresight, unwillingness to act when action would be simple and effective, lack of clear thinking, confusion of counsel until the emergency comes, until self-preservation strikes its jarring gong – these are the features which constitute the endless repetition of history.”

Registered Nurse Stephany Gabbard in 2003, in the book Immigration’s Unarmed Invasion: Deadly Consequences, said, “Immigrants bring diseases into the United States that were unhe
